Healthy Body Image, Self-Esteem, and Empowerment for Girls and Moms
Girls Rock! was a grass roots non-profit founded in 2004 (through 2017) and was 100% volunteer run.
Workshops were designed for tween girls and their mothers to attend together--a fantastic blend of education, relaxation, mom/daughter bonding activities, and over-all sisterhood among all the facilitators and attendees.
Sessions were led by Teen Mentors and Professionals.
Lisa created this organization when her girls were 9 and 7 with the hope of creating a community of support, acceptance, and empowerment for her daughters to grow up with, and up into. At the time, it was her desperate effort to save her girls from a culture of dieting hell and low self-esteem.
It worked. Slowly over time, her daughters were exposed to a diversity of older girls who felt good about themselves for great reasons beyond appearance, and they too grew into Girls Rock! Mentors!
Over the years, the G.R! team wrote a book and facilitated numerous workshops for girls and their moms in Lexington, KY, and at theTurn Beauty Inside Out Conference in Los Angeles, and Lisa presented at schools, conferences for service professionals, and as a keynote speaker.
Teaching girls and women of all backgrounds about health and self-acceptance continues to be her passion even as her own daughters are now solidly on their own paths of contentment. Yes, she is deeply grateful for this!
