This Playshop is designed to be instructive, meditative, moving, and great fun.
Learn some poetry craft skills and write, really write; discover or fine-tune your poetic voice.
A generative Playshop for women who want to understand poetry, and write it!!!
Because nervous system stress-reduction tools deepen access to deep-flow creativity, breathing—truly breathing—will punctuate generative writing exercises.
This event is designed for women with every level of writing experience.
BRING:
*A journal and favorite writing pen.
*Two photo images from the natural world that can be pasted into a journal (home printers and plain paper work well).
Have you wanted to write poetry? Understand why and how poetry makes sense? Want to find yourself in the flow of art that moves through you and moves you?
Writing poetry is as close to the heart as prayer. It's right there in the same way that your thoughts and personal stories are right there—and sometimes the stories of loved ones too.
Most, writing a poem is as close to the heart as breathing.
HOUR ONE: This playshop will open with a calming, breathing-meditation to help ground participants in the wise place of self and to step through the door of creative flow. We’ll look at examples of gorgeous contemporary poetry and discuss why certain poems work in terms of form, voice, tone, imagery, metaphor, tension. Learn some fancy terms like: caesura, alliteration, volta, enjambment. Learn how to “break a line” for impact and surprise.
HOUR TWO: Let's write! Using a photo image as a helping tool to direct theme and voice—participants will approach the page with ease and electricity—let’s see what comes through. Learn how to write “the shitty first draft” and then fine tune it. We’ll edit with an eye for brevity and a few new poetic devices from hour one.
HOUR THREE: Poetry-up-your-image and optional sharing hour. We’ll apply words and lines from the page to the photos themselves (craft supplies provided). We’ll read our work aloud—have it witnessed, blessed and encouraged. Participants will leave with the solid draft of a new poem and beautiful journal pages. Participants will leave with take-home awe for the community of a women’s circle, art, intuition and new skills as writers.

💃🏽FROM RECENT January SoulCollage® Poetry Playshop participants:
🌸Dear Lisa, I get so anxious about sharing the written word, but I really feel like your class unlocked something in my brain.
Isabelle B., KY
🌼All of Lisa’s workshops are prepared with thoughtfulness and sensitivity to mind, body and soul. I have enjoyed two of her poetry workshops so far. Each one has helped me tap into my own muse. She provides both teachings on poetry structure and encouragement for each person’s unique voice. Whether you approach poetry writing as a novice or with experience, she will lead you into a deeper engagement with the craft. I highly recommend any of Lisa’s offerings. ~Marianne G., KY
🌺Dear Lisa, I would not change a thing about this poetry & SoulCollage® workshop. From the way you set it up, the way you held space, your agenda, your pacing, the weaving of intuitions and technique all flowed beautifully. Thank you for inviting me. I would never have signed up for a poetry writing workshop but it was just what I needed." ~E.M.G., Ontario, Canada
